2018: Our Year in Review

Phew! Hello 2019, how lovely it is to see you. This time last year our mantra was: “go the extra mile, it’s never crowded”. Did we stand by our words? It’s time to reflect, here’s our 2018 year in review!

January

We caught our breath in January as we recovered from our first year in business. It was a delight to see our first birthday celebrated in The Yorkshire Post. Thank you to everyone who has featured our story throughout the year.

February

In February we received our invitation to FSB’s annual awards ceremony... which we later went on to win! Buttercrumble is officially 2018’s Micro Business of the Year for Yorkshire and The Humber.

March

A busy month with York Fashion Week, our design surgery, and BBC Women in Sport filling our diary. We returned to John Lewis Cheadle to deliver an in-store Easter experience.

April

April saw us return to retail to deliver in-store experiences as we hosted our second workshop with Anthropologie. Our work promotes positivity and self-expression which made us the perfect partner for the brand.

May

New York, New York. So good they named it twice. We had a truly inspiring trip to the Big Apple and we can’t wait to go back.

June

It was a joy to take part in Bloom! Festival. The festival celebrated a horticultural milestone of York thus the city flourished. We partnered with First Buses to transform their vehicles using flower power. It also marked our collaboration with York Theatre Royal; we brought their Secret Garden to life!

July

Seasalt Cornwall are so supportive of artists and we’ve really enjoyed developing a relationship with them. We illustrated their customers in beautiful Lytham.

August

We are proud to be part of NatWest’s Accelerator programme and what an honour to be finalists in their awards. August saw Buttercrumble become Great British Entrepreneur Award’s Family Business finalists.

September

It was time to jet-set once more and refill our inspiration banks. Our residency in Javea was wonderful. We wrote about the importance of creative breaks in the Creative Review.

October

In October, we were invited to illustrate at the BBC. The day, organised by Kate Hardcastle, celebrated Women In Sport. It’s a super idea and we hope it encourages more ladies to get involved in sport.

November

It was another busy month in November as we supported many fellow Yorkshire businesses and organisations. It was lovely to recognise some of these at York Culture Awards where we illustrated at the event. We also visited our wonderful design partner Acorn & Pip who opened her store in Slaithwaite with fancy new branding.

December

We continued our partnership with John Lewis to deliver Christmas experiences to their customers. It brings us joy to delight and surprise the public through the power of illustration.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone we've met and worked with this year. We couldn't do it without you! Here's to building long-term relationships with the brands we love and here’s to our new mantra; dreams are the seeds of change. What are your dreams for 2019? Let us know in the comments below.

Happy New Year!
