Creating a fun, cultural trail for visitors

The brief

Project aim: Engage visitors with Beningbrough Hall’s grounds and gardens whilst the Hall is under renovation. Beningbrough Hall is a large Georgian mansion under the care of the National Trust.

Project objectives: The Awesome Architect Trail has transformed the Georgian mansion's gardens with eight illustrative garden panels and an interactive leaflet. Visitors can follow the trail, answer fun questions, and immerse themselves in the Hall's history.

Impact

Trail leaflet

The leaflet design included an illustrated map and a range of activities which connected with the panels dotted around Beningbrough Hall’s grounds.

Improved visitor experience

The Awesome Architect trail provided visitors with fun activities to complete whilst the Hall was closed for refurbishment. The leaflet allowed the visitors to extend the experience as they were able to take it home as a memento.

Added brand value

The National Trust was provided with a toolkit of assets so they could continue to use the illustrations in other pieces of collateral to market Beningbrough Hall. This adds evergreen value to the project.

Spot illustrations

We created a series of illustrations for Beningbrough Hall that may be used following the Awesome Architect trail for added brand value.

The results

The project provided a new educational activity for visitors (especially dog owners and families) who could appreciate the Awesome Architect Trail. It offered guests entertaining tasks to enjoy during the Hall's renovation closure. Additionally, the leaflet enabled visitors to prolong their experience by taking it home as a keepsake.

The National Trust has received lovely feedback from visitors, with many posting their escapades on social media. The trail was extended into the springtime due to this popularity and success, providing further value.
